Farmland Preservation

Smart Growth and...
Farmland Preservation  |  Circulation and Connectivity  |  Residential Neighborhoods
Multi-Family Development  |  Commercial Development  |  Major Streets  |  Residential Streets

We continue to grow our cities outward onto ag land as though it were vacant land.  How much longer can we continue to grow at three to four units per acre, consuming this valuable resource?

Even if farmland preservation was not an issue, would we wish for an environment that was completely urbanized?

Smart growth urges moderate increases in density - while paying close attention to good design - to slow the impact of growth on farmland.

Moderate increases in density can go a long way towards slowing the impact of urbanization on farmland.  Good design is a key component of increased density.
